Expertise
In the early 2000s, Sabrina’s research focused on mutual guarantee associations for artisans in Europe and Africa. Closely related to this topic is also that of professional associations of microfinance institutions and access to finance for women. Sustainable enterprise development, SME formalization, youth entrepreneurship, the business environment and environmental integrity are covered in different papers mainly in the 2010s. Between 2005 and 2010 Sabrina concentrated on the labour markets of developing countries and more specifically on labour market flexibility and income security. During the period 2010-2015, she dealt with balancing economic, social and environmental sustainability starting from the case of the Venice Lagoon where she originally comes from. This work was developed in affiliation with SOAS and Imperial College. More recently, Sabrina has examined the pharmaceutical industry in two Sub-Saharan African countries to consider potential for economic transformation. Industrial symbiosis as a form of circular economy in industrialising countries is another recent research area she covers.
