Expertise

Rossana Merola is a Specialist in the SME Branch of the Enterprises Department at the International Labour Organization (ILO), where she focuses on Enabling Environment for Sustainable Enterprises (EESE). She has been working at the ILO since 2014, when she began contributing to the Research Department.

Before joining the ILO, Rossana held positions as an economist at the Economic and Social Research Institute (ESRI) in Ireland, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), and the European Central Bank, where she developed macroeconomic models and conducted policy analysis.

Rossana earned her PhD in Economics from the Université Catholique de Louvain-la-Neuve in Belgium. She has also lectured extensively, including at the ITC-ILO in Turin, the Joint Vienna Institute (JVI), and Trinity College Dublin, sharing her expertise in macroeconomics and labour market policy.

Her research contributions are widely recognized in both academic and policy circles. They have been covered by the media and presented at numerous conferences and workshops. Rossana has published extensively in high-level journals, including Journal of Economic Surveys, International Economics, Empirical Economics, Journal of Macroeconomics, European Journal of Political Economy, IZA Journal of Labour Policy, Economic Modelling, and Central Bank Review.
