Expertise

A Malawian national, Ken Chamuva Shawa is a Senior Economist at the ILO based at the Regional Office for Africa in Abidjan, Cote d’ Ivoire. His research interests include the economics of labour markets, health and labour nexus, impact assessment economics, saving and investment, industry and trade, financial development, debt sustainability, the growth-environment nexus, and agricultural policy. He holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Nairobi, Kenya; a MSc in International Environmental Management from the University of Northampton, UK; a Master of Arts in Economics and a bachelor’s degree in Social Science (Economics) from the University of Malawi. He is currently pursuing another PhD in Health Economics and Policy at the University of Lancaster, in the UK. In 2021 the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the European Investment Bank (EIB) awarded him a certificate in Financial Development and Financial Inclusion. He also got certification in Agriculture, Economics and Nature, from the University of Western Australia.
