Expertise

Franz Christian Ebert is a Research Officer at the ILO's Research Department. His research is located at the intersection of transnational labour law, economic governance, and human rights law.

At the ILO, Franz focuses on the interplay between trade law, supply chain governance, and labour standards. His ongoing research includes topics such as the legal design and practical effects of forced labour import bans, the implications of digital trade governance for labour standards, and the interactions of labour provisions in trade agreements with other instruments of labour governance. His work has appeared in journals such as the International Labour Review, the World Trade Review, the Human Rights Law Review and the Leiden Journal of International Law.

Previously, Franz worked as a researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law in Heidelberg and served as a visiting professional at the Inter-American Court of Human Rights in San José, Costa Rica. He has also been a visiting researcher at Columbia Law School in New York and the Lauterpacht Centre for International Law at the University of Cambridge. Additionally, Franz has guest lectured at the World Trade Institute in Bern and at the University of Chile, and is an Associate Member of the Centre for Law at Work at the University of Bristol.
