Provides an assessment of the relationship between work and development. Focuses on three distinct, but related aspects of the issue: efficiency and justice in the allocation of resources to the quality of working conditions; the role of the workplace, and labour's role in particular, in generating productivity; and the way that work fits in with and serves other social activities and thereby contributes to well-being beyond its purely financial rewards.
