Expertise

Verena Schmidt has been a Labour Relations and Collective Bargaining Specialist at the ILO in Geneva, Switzerland since 2016.

Since joining the ILO in 2003, she started in the Bureau for Workers’ Activities where she set up and coordinated a research network, edited an ILO journal and was teaching at the Masters’ Course of the Global Labour University. In 2009 she became specialist for working conditions and gender equality in the ILO’s Budapest Office.

From 2013 – 2015 Verena acted as coordinator of the Pacific Growth and Employment Project in Vanuatu and Papua New Guinea.

She holds a PhD in social sciences from the University of Bochum, Germany.

Verena published several books, policy reports and articles on collective bargaining, gender equality, representation in the informal economy and global supply chains.
