This brief presents the Employment-Intensive Investment Programme (EIIP) approach in Asia and the Pacific, showing how public investments in infrastructure and the environment can be designed to create more and better jobs while advancing decent work.Drawing on more than 50 years of EIIP experience globally, it outlines practical approaches for integrating employment objectives, labour standards, skills development, social protection, local enterprise development and climate resilience into public investment. The brief highlights entry points at policy, institutional and local levels, alongside examples from across the region, and provides practical resources for governments, social partners, development partners and financial institutions seeking to maximize the employment and social impact of public investment.
