Abstract
The ILO Office for Japan and the Research & Analysis Department of the Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO) signed a memorandum of understanding on joint research in October 2022 to conduct research on initiatives related to human rights due diligence and challenges and opportunities surrounding business and human rights. The joint research is a part of the ILO project "Building Responsible Value Chains in Asia" funded by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) which started in April 2022. This ILO-JETRO joint research examined the trade relationships between Bangladesh, Cambodia, and Viet Nam and Japan, as well as policies and initiatives related to the promotion of responsible business conduct, and compiled examples of responsible business conduct and labour practices of Japanese enterprises engaged in manufacturing including apparel/ textile, electronics and electronic parts that have operational locations and business partners in these countries.
