Abstract
Draws attention to the international legal framework as it relates to child labour and children's rights, and specifically to the situation of girls. Identifies the reasons why it is so important that the issues facing girls engaged in child labour be urgently addressed: the hidden nature of many forms of girls' work; the special vulnerability of girls who face multiple disadvantages; the “double burden” of having to combine household chores and economic activity; and the huge indirect impact of the HIV/AIDS epidemic on child labour in general and on girls in particular.
