Abstract
Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are essential to achieving a low-carbon future, yet many face significant barriers to decarbonization. This report examines the experiences of six Japanese SMEs that successfully reduced emissions through changes in technology, production processes and business practices. Drawing on case studies from manufacturing, food production and textiles, it highlights the factors that enabled their transition, the challenges they encountered and the support they received. The report also explores how decarbonization can be linked to a just transition, offering lessons for policymakers and business leaders alike.
