Abstract
Examines how recent immigrants in Europe are failing to move from low-skilled precarious jobs into decent work. While some countries have invested in labour market integration policies, they have focused primarily on getting immigrants into work rather than to facilitate career progression. Newly arrived immigrants often struggle as a result of limited language proficiency, discrimination, and difficulties in having qualifications recognized and signalling how skills and experience meet employer needs. Many experience protracted periods of inactivity, unemployment, or long tenures in low-skilled work.
