Abstract
Article examining the effect of economic dependence on poverty alleviation and basic needs satisfaction in Zambia - briefly reviews historical development under colonialism and trends after independence in 1964 (notably in the agricultural sector, industrial sector and trade), and indicates how the worldwide economic recession and dependence have resulted in a dual economy and unfavourable income distribution.
