Abstract
Results of four surveys are compared in an attempt to draw a composite profile suggestive of patterns that may be generally expected in South America. The article focuses primarily on children working in urban streets, and discusses their work, remuneration, families, education, aspirations and needs. A few policy and programme implications are noted.
