Abstract

unemployment behaviour unemployed wages part time employment unemployment benefit measurement developed countries developing countries
Article on the notion of 'voluntary' unemployment in developed countries and in developing countries - analyses six behavioural characteristics attributed to unemployed workers suspected of indulging in voluntary unemployment (e.g. Excessive wages aspirations, preference for part time employment, etc.), considers possible effects of unemployment benefit, and finds that many of the assumptions used in measurement of this phenomenon lack empirical support.
