Article on the definition of structural unemployment - examines the main elements, as identified in the literature (incl. Industrial structure and population dynamics, skill and geographical mismatch, institutional rigidities, "unemployability" of the unemployed and capital-restructuring unemployment), questions the validity of related assumptions and some of the approaches used to assess structural unemployment, and discusses the limited effect of employment policies.
