Abstract
Article on technological change and its effect on dockers in the USSR - reviews experience gained in soviet ports with regard to containerised cargo-handling techniques and the creation of all-round dockworker teams capable of acting as machine operators, maintenance workers, tally clerks, etc., and outlines results of the new system in respect of increased productivity and wages as well as problems remaining to be solved.
