Article on a large-scale job design project for the quality of working life and improvement of job satisfaction among the 12000 employees of the Tokyo gas company in Japan - shows how the project was launched with active workers participation and how it sought to achieve comparable working conditions for both manual workers and nonmanual workers, and includes a brief evaluation of the success of the project based on trade union and management attitudes.
