Abstract
Article on development planning alternatives and scenarios for basic needs satisfaction and economic growth in Brazil, India, Kenya and Colombia - applying a simulation socio-economic model based on quantified systems approach, for the period from 1980 to 2000, shows that although the best economic results were achieved under growth- oriented scenarios with trade liberalization, scenarios with basic needs approach were nearly as successful and had the added advantages of reducing poverty earlier and of being less vulnerable to external factors.
