Article on the effects of agricultural mechanization on agricultural production and employment in India and Sri Lanka - outlines different patterns of mechanization, the effects of improved irrigation and tractorisation, etc., and concludes that mechanization has often had no beneficial effects on production and has been used as a means of reducing the dependence of large landowners on tenants or casual rural workers.
