Article describing the new role of shop steward's committees functioning simultaneously as the highest institution of workers participation and the highest trade union organ at the enterprise level in Hungary - discusses changes in the institutional framework, role in dispute settlement, consolidation of union leadership resources, employees attitudes to company affairs, evaluation of management performance, etc.
