Abstract
Article assessing the impact of containerization and other cargo handling innovations on labour relations in the stevedoring industry (dockers) in the USA - traces the collective bargaining efforts of management and of trade unions in such areas as employment security, early retirement, pension schemes, minimum wages, occupational safety, social protection and training.
