Abstract
Article on the role of employment in a basic needs approach to economic and social development in Nigeria - examines the relationship of work to basic needs and the role of the urban area informal sector, reviews past employment policy, and considers measures for improving overall productivity by means of development policy involving integrated rural development, use of labour intensive public works projects, appropriate foreign exchange controls, and export promotion.
