computer aided design computer aided manufacturing industrial sector labour productivity employment occupational structure work organization hours of work job satisfaction wages skill further training labour relations technological change OECD countries socialist countries Stress
Examines effects of computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) and finds little evidence of negative employment impact. CAD tends to promote group work and has led to shift work and flexible working hours in design offices, despite some resistance from staff and unions. The intensity of CAD work, however, is found to produce stress.
