labour supply low income labour economics wages hours of work household income agricultural workers statistical table developed countries developing countries Economic Theory
Reviews studies on the labour supply of the working poor in industrialized and developing countries and compares competing theories. Argues that the negatively sloping supply function widely observed at very low wages reflects distress sales of labour and not a "perverse mentality" as many theorists have assumed.
