Article on employment implications of public expenditure on defence in the USA - examines the structural evolution of defence spending, and changes in its industrial structure; presents comparisons of labour force participation, wages and labour productivity levels in ' defence-dependent' and 'defence-independent' industries; reviews types of occupations in defence industries, and types of worker employed, incl. The highly qualified worker in private enterprise, and skilled worker military personnel.
