Article discussing the employment implications of the transfer of highly qualified worker military personnel from the defence sector to the civilian sector (disarmament) in OECD countries - identifies industries and occupations most dependent on defence contracting; examines retraining needs of scientists, engineers, technicians and skilled workers and their lack of employment opportunity; considers the role of central governments, employees and managers in the conversion of the defence industry.
