Abstract
Analyses statistics referring to the general movement of unemployment, calculates national indexes for some industrial countries and discusses the possibility of constructing an international index. Considers that such indexes, though far from perfect, may nevertheless be considered as useful and satisfactory indicators of unemployment trends. Argues that although great improvements are still necessary in unemployment statistics before comprehensive and authoritative index numbers can be constructed, it is desirable that national and international indexes should be computed at regular intervals.
