Article comprising a conference paper describing the Zambian national provident fund to illustrate how contingency funds may be used in developing countries as a beginning step towards social protection - briefly describes the limitations of provident funds and examines the extension of social security coverage, occupational pension schemes, etc. Conference held in dar es salaam 1973 October 1 to 19.
