Working paper (International Labour Organization. Policy Integration Department), no. 44, ILO
2005

Abstract

woman manager equal employment opportunity gender equality civil servant private enterprise sexual division of labour gross domestic product developed countries developing countries
Scrutinizes and analyses the extent to which legislators and senior government officials, and managers in private establishments in developed, transition and developing economies around the world are women. Finds that feminisation of these occupations is not positively related to a country's development level as measured by GDP per capita, i.e. that economic development and accompanying increases in education and other factors are not sufficient to significantly alter gender stereotypes.
