Abstract

responsible business conduct enterprise skills development occupational safety and health employment policy employment creation social dialogue Lao PDR
This booklet summarizes case studies on responsible business conduct (RBC) among enterprises based in Lao People’s Democratic Republic. The five case studies across the garment, beverage, handicraft and mining subsectors illustrate how the guidance of the ILO Tripartite Declaration of Principles Concerning Multinational Enterprises and Social Policy (MNE Declaration) can be translated into practical workplace action. The cases highlight enterprise experiences in skills development, occupational safety and health, employment policies, job creation and social dialogue — demonstrating that responsible business conduct is not merely aspirational but can generate tangible benefits for both enterprises and workers. This booklet was prepared as part of the “Building Responsible Value Chains in Asia through the Promotion of Decent Work in Business Operations (Phase II)” project, implemented by the ILO with support from the Government of Japan (Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry).
