Abstract
Based on a survey of 22 national and international chemical associations and two workers' organizations conducted in 1995. Gives a general overview of "Responsible Care", a voluntary initiative of the chemical industry adopted in 40 countries. Briefly reviews selected bilateral (government-industry) initiatives and environmental management systems and ISO standards. Includes addresses of contacts for national Responsible Care programmes.
