Based on a survey of 13 micro and small enterprises in both the formal and informal sectors in three urban areas of Kenya. Describes the key characteristics of these enterprises, investigates conditions of employment and labour practices and examines the role of the Bakery, Confectionery, Manufacturing and Allied Workers' Union (BCMAU) in representing and protecting workers.
