Leading by example: Building environmental, social, and governance services in Employer and Business Membership Organizations This new brief, developed under the LEADER Knowledge Series, provides Employer and Business Membership Organizations (EBMOs) with practical guidance on integrating environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles into their internal operations. Building on recent survey insights, the brief outlines why internal ESG adoption strengthens EBMO credibility, enhances risk management, and reinforces their role as advocates of responsible and sustainable business practices.It offers a roadmap covering governance structures, workplace policies, environmental practices, and social responsibility measures, complemented by illustrative examples from EBMOs already taking action. By embedding ESG into their own systems, EBMOs can lead by example and provide a strong, practical model for the enterprises they support.
