Abstract

income distribution trade unionization trend collective bargaining income redistribution welfare state developed countries developing countries
Assesses the extent to which the generalized decline in union density during the period 1980-2005 as well as the erosion in centralized bargaining structures and developments in other labour institutions have contributed to a rising with-in country inequality. Finds that large welfare states play an important redistributive role, at least in developed countries.
