Presents the trends in non-standard employment, including part-time work, temporary work, and self-employment. Examines the wage differentials between standard and non-standard jobs and implications for income inequality. Explores the factors that contribute to income disparities in emerging economies, giving monthly incomes and growth rates, and expenditure equations for urban China and rural India for the years 1983, 1993/94 and 2004/05.
