Abstract

artificial intelligence labour market analysis ASEAN countries
This ILO brief examines how generative AI could affect labour markets across ASEAN by analysing occupational exposure, AI adoption, labour market trends and countries' preparedness. The brief finds little evidence that GenAI has yet caused widespread labour market disruption, as employment in highly exposed occupations has continued to grow despite some emerging signs of weaker outcomes for young workers in selected entry-level jobs. It concludes that future impacts will depend on policy choices, with investment in skills, digital infrastructure, enterprise capabilities, governance and social dialogue needed to ensure AI supports productivity, quality jobs and inclusive growth across ASEAN.
