Abstract
This discussion paper provides an insight into the complex inter-linkages between gender, poverty and employment in selected countries in the Arab region. In particular, it highlights how perceptions of gender roles, and women's low income and poor level of capabilities perpetuate women's disadvantaged position in the labour market.
