Explores the fiscal situation in Pakistan during the 1980s and 1990s, and examines the impact of fiscal austerity measures adopted since 1999. Analyses the relationship between fiscal deficit and various key macroeconomic indicators and concludes that a degree of deficit expansion could be permitted under certain conditions.
