Working paper on methodological issues arising in cross cultural analysis of the family and of the social role of women - reviews inappropriate assumptions about marriage, the household and related social norms (e.g. responsibility for child care), proposes a framework for interdisciplinary research in traditional cultures on women's availability for full time employment and on attitudes relating to innovation in fertility matters.
