Abstract
This Thematic Brief is part of a series of publications on Enterprise Formalization. Thematic Brief 1/2021 provides a definition of informal enterprises and discusses their different types. It explores some of the most significant drivers to be or remain informal such as the comparison the costs and benefits. Readers can also find out why it is important for countries to facilitate enterprise formalization, how it contributes to decent work and what kind of measures may be effective.
