Abstract
Addresses the development and use of community contracts for infrastructure provision and upgrading in unplanned urban settlements in developing countries. Explains different types of contract, examines the roles and responsibilities of the community and other actors and presents step-by-step guidelines for setting up a community contracting system. Provides examples from experiences in Tanzania and Uganda.
