Abstract
The Peruvian Ministry for the Development of Agriculture and Irrigation (MIDAGRI) has introduced agriculture insurance as part of its policy to develop the competitiveness of the Peruvian agricultural sector. It established a catastrophic agriculture insurance programme to protect smallholder farmers engaged in subsistence farming. This Case Brief on MIDAGRI covers the growth of this programme, which protected 950,000 farmers in the last season.
