Abstract
The 2024 “Women at Work in G20 Countries: Progress and Policy Action” report provides a comprehensive assessment of progress towards gender equality in labour market outcomes, emphasizing significant trends, achievements and policy actions across G20 economies. This year’s report takes stock of the achievements made in 2024 towards the Brisbane Goal, which aimed at reducing the gender gap in labour force participation by 25 per cent. This report also presents new evidence on persistent gender wage gaps and highlights notable policy actions undertaken by countries to support gender equality in the labour market.Overall, the report underscores considerable progress while highlighting persistent challenges requiring continued and enhanced policy interventions. As G20 countries approach the end of the agreed time frame for reaching the Brisbane Goal and potentially adopt an additional target, sustained efforts and innovative strategies will be crucial to fully realizing gender equality and leveraging the immense economic and social benefits that such equality can provide.
