Abstract

labour market decent work motor vehicle industry value chains Mexico Trade
This chapter explores the effects that the rise in final and global value chain related exports in the automotive sector have had on decent work in the aftermath of the North American Free Trade Agreement, using input–output techniques. The authors argue that, while Mexico has improved its engagement in the automobile-sector global value chains, this has not been accompanied by the expected employment gains or progress towards decent work.
