Abstract
This chapter assesses the potential of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) to promote the realization of Sustainable Development Goal 8 (SDG 8) on decent work and economic growth. It reviews available economic projections of the AfCFTA’s labour market impact and analyses how concerns related to SDG 8 are reflected in the AfCFTA’s legal and institutional design. On this basis, the chapter explores options for strengthening the AfCFTA’s contribution to implementing SDG 8.
