Abstract
Eleven papers, prepared for the triennial review of the International Social Security Association, cover the period 1996 to 1998. Presents policy trends and regional developments, including redesign of social security; new management practices in social security; a comparison of informal care policies; economic growth and social security focusing on recent Asian experience; and pension insurance, health care, and poverty alleviation in Latin America. Focuses on program areas: employment problems and active labor market policies in industrialized countries; pension system reforms in response to growth of retired populations; public disability programs under new complex pressures; new policies relating to access and adequacy of health care; social security's responses to changes in family structure; and social protection through social assistance.
