Abstract
As digital, environmental, and demographic transformations reshape labour markets, skills influence who benefits from these changes and who falls behind. This column presents the findings of an International Labour Organization report that shows that socio-emotional and cognitive skills are in high demand and that employers seek rounded skills profiles. However, most countries still lack ambitious lifelong learning systems. The inclusiveness, quality, and adaptability of such systems will influence how economies and societies navigate structural transformation.
